Technology - Mark Dean

Mark Dean is an inventor and a computer scientist. He holds three of the nine original IBM patents upon which personal computers were based. He led the team that developed the ISA bus, and he led the design team responsible for creating the first one-gigahertz computer processor chip. Dean is the first African-American to become an IBM Fellow which is the highest level of technical excellence at the company.

Dean made history again by leading the design team responsible for creating the first 1-gigahertz processor chip, another significant step in making computers faster and smaller.

  • Highlights from the Black History Program
  • February 9 - The NBMBAA-Memphis Chapter along wth the National Association of African Americans in HR (NAAAHR) hosted a Black History Event at The National Civil Rights Museum. The event began with social networking, followed by the evening's speaker, Tennessee Discrimination Attorney Dan Norwood and ended with a tour of the museum.

Dan M. Norwood, Attorney at Law, has over twenty-five years experience representing employees and groups of employees who have been unlawfully discriminated against or who have faced retaliation for exercising their legal rights. Attorney Norwood gave a compelling presentation on some of the discrimination cases that he has worked on as well as challenged the audience to stand up for their rights in order to create change and raise awareness of workplace discrimination to our judicial system.

The Black History Program was sponsored by International Paper.

-Know what you want to do
-Determine why you want this goal
-Determine what obstacles you face that  prohibit you from achieving your goals
-Make a list of "assistors" (people that could  help you reach your goal)

Careers are easy to neglect. If the paychecks keep coming and the boss is tolerable, most people get into a routine and direct their attention elsewhere.

So, whether you're hoping to stay at your current employer or thinking you'll move to another firm at some point, here are eight job resolutions to help you jumpstart your career in 2007.
